India High Commission in Nigeria has reaffirmed its readiness to strengthen bilateral relationship between Nigeria and India.
The High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Abhay Thakur gave this indication during Sharda University of India alumni meeting held in Abuja at the weekend.
Represented by Deputy High Commissioner and Head of Chancery, Mr Shri Surendra the High Commissioner assured that India will continue to partner Nigeria in the area of education.
In his address of welcome, President International Relations, Sharda Group, Mr Ashok Daryani spoke of the importance of reuniting and rejuvenating the relationship between the University and its students.
He stated that such meeting would be held regularly to strengthen the existing relationship with all products of the University across the world.
On his part, Chairman Gadawur Global Investment Limited, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu commended the Indian High Commissioner for focusing on educational sector.
He charged the well to do, to sponsor indigent students, especially the girl child in the society as part of their social responsibilities to humanity.
Project Director, Zamfara State Scholarship Board, Alhaji Musa Jazuli tasked the institution to maintain its standard and quality of education.
He further charged the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) to review its requirements for operating a University; adding that one of the requirements to have 100 hectares of land is discouraging.
“You should allow who wants to own a University with a few land to be able to do so, so that these foreign Universities that want to set up in Nigeria can do so.”
He also charged the alumni to continue to learn to empower themselves, while appealing to the India High Commission for quick visa processing for students.
Some of the alumni who spoke at the event commended the University for impacting knowledge on them as well as the cordial student-lecturer relationship they built.
Deputy Director, National University Commission, Dr Lawal Muhammad Faruk, Project Director, Zamfara State Scholarship Board, Alhaji Musa Jazuli, Director-General Rochas Care Foundation, Mr Salisu Sambo attended the event.
