As insecurity getting worse, especially in Northern Nigeria, the Director, Publicity and Advocacy, Northern Elders Forum, Dr. Hakeem Baba- Ahmed, says President Muhammadu Buhari does not understand the situation of the country.
Hakeem-baba, stated this while addressing Journalists on the side line of the Northern Governors Forum meeting with the Presidency and Inspector General of Police Thursday in Kaduna.
According to him, President Buhari is the general Commander, Federal Republic of Nigeria, but has not shown any commitment to prove his position, said the growing level of Insecurity in the country in recent time is worrisome and should be discouraged.
“The state of the north is a very dangerous situation. We have never had such a situation like that before.
“We do not see evidence that President Muhammadu Buhari as the president and Commander chief of Army forces understand the magnitudes of the insecurity in the North or has the commitment and the willingness to address those security security situations.
“We hear everyday that the police are doing their best, the military are doing their best unfortunately, either the problem is more bigger than their capacity or their efforts are not good enough, either way, the person who swore on the Quran to protect us is the president and Commander of the arm forces but from what we see on ground there is no any evidence to show that we are protected.” He said
Hakeem-Baba further stated that Nothern Elders do not know where the solutions are, hence the Governors on daily basis claimed that they are not in control of the security apparatus, noted that the Federal Government has clearly shown that they lack the ability to protect Nothern community. He also stressed that the problem of Kidnappings, banditry and other terrorist groups are getting worse.
“We do not know where the solution is. The federal government clearly shows that they don’t ability to protect northern community the state governors are trying their best but they don’t have control over the police, have no control over the military. They are desperate too because we keep telling them that people look after them and they said what do you want us to do we don’t have the authority of the Federal Government we see efforts of the Federal Government but they are not enough banditry, Kidnappings are getting worse now the kidnapping of children from school is threatening education in the North we have enough problem with poverty but nobody seems to understand the relationship between poverty and banditry.” Hakeem-Baba added.
The Director while explaining further, made it known that Nothern Governors have been advised by the forum severally to embrace each other in love so as to strengthen their Unity for the sake of Developments.
“When the Governors asked us to make comments. we advised them on three areas
“They must stop quarelling with each other. Governors don’t quarel, leaders don’t quarel when you have issues, settle it among yourselves but if governors cannot agree on the strategies of dealing with hearders bandits and Kidnappers what do you want us as citizens to do? This is not good enough they must find a way in which they can settle that agreement and talk to us as our leaders we don’t have any other leader it is them and president Buhari and it looks like president Muhammadu Buhari did not even know how deeply is the insecurity of the North so we told them to stop quarrelling.
“Also, We told them as Governors to devise a means of securing Nothern Nigeria for us. We know they are Governors but there are little things they can do to improve the security of notherners but they Said they are not in charge of security but as Governors, there are devices, there are means so we keep challenging them and To improve the manner they protect Notherners in southern communities our people are exposed, vulnerable and this is not acceptable. It is our Governors who should engage their fellow Governors in other parts of the country. We want Southerners to live in the North while Notherners too continue to habour Southerners so they should engage their fellow Governors so that our people can live in peace anywhere they are.” He concluded.
