University System Gradually Loosing Its Heroic Pasts – Says Namadi Sambo

Nigeria’s Former Vice President, NamadiSambo says the numerous challenges facing uniiversities in the country has greatly affected teaching and learning .
These challenges, he emphasised,  have crippled the system that it’s gradually losing its heroic pasts.
Arc Namadi Sambo stated  this on Saturday at the delegates meeting and Award of Excellence of Conference of AlumnI Association of Nigerian Universities hosted by the Kaduna State University
The former Vice President said it was also worrisome to note the exponential rise in travel for education
abroad.
Arc. Namadi Sambo who noted with satisfaction the role of the Alumni Association stressed the need for Associations to learn from one another, common platform for interaction with Federal, State Governments and proprietors of Private universities on matters affecting University Education in NIgeria .
“. It is thus important that well meaning
individuals and corporate organizations cooperate with CAANU towards achieving these goals that would reposition the fate of our dear nation in positive direction.
“It is also very pertinent to identify with the Nigerian students as the nation is going through another strike action as embarked upon by the Academic Staff Unions of Universities (ASUU), which had paralyzed academic activities in the system for almost eight months.
He tasked the Conference to consider the establishment of an endowment fund in their respective institutions to augment funding for research and critical infrastructure in our
universities.
Earlier in an address of welcome, the President of the Association, KASU , Mallam Usman Ibrahim Tabari  had lauded Governor Nasir El- rufai Administration’s  transformation, especially in the area of infrastructural development,
He also spoke of the positive changes under the present management of KASU led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof.Muhammad Tanko.
” Social Science, and that of Management Sciences, and he upgraded the Faculty of Medicine to College of Medicine. Under your leadership Sir, KASU established linkages and collaboration with some foreign universities like Coventry University in the UK, University Uttara, and University Tanaga both in Malasiya, amongst others.
“The Vice Chancellor also supported the
Alumni Association to get its rightful place in the University Goverming Council, thereby
enabling us contributes our quota in the decision making and administration of the University. In the provision of financial assistance and scholarship to deserving students, the Alumni Association enjoyed the support of the Vice Chancellor who always ensure all our request were
granted.
“Mv welcome address will not be complete without mentioning some key projects and
programmes which KASU Aumni Association has done as a payback to the University.
 It is on record that KASU Alunmni Association embarked on impactful projects which include renovation of College of Basic Studies installations of solar sur
” Or solar street lights within the University
premises, provision of 100 wall-fans in lecture halls, provision of furniture and offices
equipment, purchase of Alumni vehicle, and recently the ailocation of palliatives to the
University security personnel and all casual staff during the Covid-19 lockdown. All these we did despite the limited financial resources
available to KASU”, he said.
