Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council, Thursday, handed over the sum of 140,000 Naira to one of its members, Suleiman Shaibu who is due to under go an operation at 44Armed Forces Reference Hospital, Kaduna on Saturday.
The Council Chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf , Elder Joseph Edogbo and the Unin’s Financial Secretary, Noah Ebije handed over the money to the wife of Suleiman Shuaibu, a retired photo Journalist with NAN and New Nigerian Newspapers.
Comrade Yusuf said, “I emotionally felt touched with the massive turn out of our members towards assisting our ailing colleague, Suleiman Shaibu who is scheduled for operation this Saturday.
“Elder Joseph Edegbo, Financial Secretary, Noah Ebije, and I this morning visited him and handed over your financial support of one hundred and forty thousand naira (N140,000) to him through his wife.
“Suleiman Shaibu and his wife couldn’t hide their tears for the love, care and sympathy of our members towards his health.
“Tears suddenly ran down his cheeks while his wife kept on wiping it with an handkerchief
“Suleiman Shaibu wasn’t crying for the money, but for the love and care from his members which came to him unexpectedly.
“When I came on board as the Chairman of the Council, I made three promises; Peace, Unity and Development.
“With your support, the council now enjoys peaceful coexistence and we are now our brothers’ keepers ever than before. When someone approached me that one hundred thousand naira is needed for the operation, I said our members will do that, we don’t need to beg any politician for just little one hundred thousand naira. I’m not surprised within 24 hours more than the amount was contributed.
“During the late Hamisu Ado, we contributed more than 240K, Dominic Uzu more than #150K, Baba Danlami more than 170K among many others.
“I was really touched when someone called me and said ” Chairman I want to be part of this contribution but I don’t have money in my bank but I have cash please include me in this support. Someone out of his 3K he transfered 2K and was left with 1K in his account. Some reporters covered an assignment and got N2,500, but they sacrificed 2K out of the amount.
“This is what is called, unity and love. I am humbled and honoured by your cooperation. May God repay you abundantly.
“When members look beyond religious, tribes, gender, chapels sentiments and support another member, sky will be our limit and this is what is called unity.
“This is the only time Kaduna Council proved to many, that we are not only known for receiving, but also giving.
“Suleiman Shaibu extended his appreciation from the hospital bed for the support and your prayers.
However, the donation is still open especially for those who might have received the information late.
Allah ya bashi lafiya,” the concludes
