Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has ordered for the suspension of all social gatherings in the state with immediate effect, while that of the inter State travelings goes into effect from Sunday midnight.
The governor gave the order on Friday during a press conference at the Government House.
Governor Yahaya equally ordered for the suspension of inter town markets across the state from Saturday, while advising all religious gathering above 50 persons be suspended in order to avert the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
“All social gatherings are hereby suspended, inter state starve is also suspended from Sunday midnight as well as inter town markets from Saturday.” He said
Governor Inuwa urged all civil servants in the state from level 1 to 12 to work from home, except those whose services are critical like health workers, security personnel, fire service among others.
He added that “It is disheartening that some members of the public and some schools, failed to abide by the state government’s earlier directive for the closure of all schools and suspension of social gatherings.”
The governor said his administration has so far spent about 500 million Naira to providing isolation centres and treatment facilities, one at the State Specialist Hospital, one at Kodon and other two identified at Bajoga and Kaltungo local govrenment areas.
He said the measure became necessary in order to ensure safety of people of the state, assuring that the measure will be reviewed as soon as the situation improved.
The governor called for a state security council meeting to ensure full compliance of the new directives across the state.
