By Joseph Edegbo : Learned professionals have rated Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje high, saying his Administration considers people to be the centre of development.
Under the umbrella of International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Kano branch, the association paid an advocacy visit to the governor , with Barrister Huwaila Ibrahim, State Chairman, at the head of the body.
The lawyers assured the governor of their continued support in the Administration of the State promising to always be partners in progress.
They were at the Governor’s office calling on him to expedite action on Child Protection Law, for the overall development of children and the society in general as well as urging him to continue supporting the education of all, particularly children.
Barrister Ibrahim said “We are in support of this administration, because of your purposeful leadership Your Excellency. We also understand that, our primary cardinal principle as a body, that is child education and protection, goes in tandem with your administration’s policy.”
They registered their appreciation to the regime on free and compulsory primary and post primary education, explaining that, “Education, being the bedrock of any society, when provided to our children, that in itself, is another way of protecting their rights. This policy of free and compulsory education, Your Excellency is highly commendable.”
On the Child Protection Law, they urged the governor to push well so that the Law could see light at the end of the tunnel. Reminding him that, the law could be extremely useful in protecting children in the society from all angles and ramifications. She said “This will do good for the state.”
When passed into Law the Child Protection document would be, according to her, “…a landmark that will always be remembered by the state and the nation in general. And we shall work hand in hand to make sure that the Law has effective and efficient implementation.”
FIDA commends the state government for finding absolutely necessary to institute a Commission of Inquiry that would look into the issue of Kano 9 kids who were rescued from far a way Anambra state.
In his response, governor Ganduje assured that, “We have no reason not to enact a Law for the protection of children. These children are ours, meaning, their protection and development are all on our shoulders. The said Law would be enacted. No two ways about it.”
He further disclosed to the association that, his administration is making preparations to come up with an Agency for the disabled, assuring that, “Apart from that, preparations have reached an advanced stage over enactment of Law that would make divorce in our marriages very difficult. By that we are at the same time protecting the rights of our children. You can therefore see that our protection of child, under my watch, is multi-faceted.”
When marriages are broken, according to the governor, children are more affected at the receiving end, hence, he expressed “…when divorce is made very difficult through a law, then child protection is also assured.”
After commending them for the good work they have been doing, he promised to include them in the said Commission of Inquiry of Kano Missing Children, encouraging that, “Your work, as I can see from your presentation, has a direct link with the welfare of our children. As such, I will involve you in the Commission of Inquiry for the missing of our kids in Kano.
