Worried by the challenges posed by the presence of almajiris in northern Nigeria, a group, Women In Da’awah wants an urgent solution to the ugly trend.

At a news conference in Kaduna on Thursday as part of its Annual National Conference scheduled for this weekend, the National President of the organization, Maryam Idris Othman particularly called for the restructuring of almajiri schools to give all children a chance in living purposeful lives.

She further called on citizens to fulfil their obligations to “Allah” in word and deed by imbibing noble citizenship values, excellent communal relations, community development and contributing to the betterment of the society.

With the theme ” Believers! Enter wholly into Islam and do not follow in the footsteps of Satan for he is your open enemy”, Maryam said, the choice was a direct outcome of happenings and issues experienced in 2019.

“Indeed 2019 has reached an unwholesome height  as one of those years which showcased featured series of dislocations among the populace.

These include kidnappings, banditry, Political thuggery and negative manifestations of Election season. But as a resilient people, we cannot sit back, lament and expect miracles”, she explained.

She therefore tasked government at all levels to intensify concerted efforts in addressing challenges threatening communities, rekindling hope in the populace and providing opportunities to actualize them.

Citizens of this great nation, she said, needs to connect  with their purpose in life, commit to individual and collective contribution to the betterment of society.

Women in Da’awah is an umbrella group of Muslim Women Organizations involved in education, enlightenment, outreach, empowerment and advocacy on women and general family issues in Nigeria.
