Ghost Of June 12 Will Continue To Hunt Nigeria If … Balarabe Musa

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Alh. Balarebe Abdulkadir Musa has call on President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate what led to the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election and declare the action treason.

He said the President must go a step further beyond declaring June 12 as a Democracy Day, to know why the election was annulled and punish those involved.

Balarebe Musa who was the first executive Governor of Kaduna State said this while addressing newsmen at his Kaduna residence on Tuesday.

The elderstateman noted that those who masterminded the annulment of the election should be described and recognised as unpatriotic fellows.

According to him, annulment of June 12 has done more damage to the country than good, saying that question on why the election was annulled must be answered.

”Every other election that comes after the June 12, 1993 were never free, fair and credible.

”The ghost of June 12 will continue to hunt the country if the government fails to rise and correct the mistake of past”, he said.

He added that the Democracy we have today in Nigeria has not met the yearnings of Nigerians in anyway at all. ” Democracy is the Supreme Will of the people, and for the fact that we have twenty years of uninterrupted democracy does not mean we have Supreme Will of the people”, he said.

Balarebe further explained that if supreme will of the people means democracy, and that election must be free, fair and credible, Nigeria should not be judged as a nation that practise true democracy.

While commending Buhari for recognizing June 12, Balarabe Musa maintained that the transition between the then military head of state, Abdulsalam Abubakar to the former president Olusegun Obasanjo was not a true democracy.

”From the past administration to the present administration, the elections that brought them in were not the true reflection of the peoples will and therefore they are fraud,” he said.

While speaking on how Nigeria can sustain its democracy he says” the political class must always respect the will of the people by allowing free, fair and credible elections that will lead to a legitimate government.
