Nigeria: EFCC Secures 20 Convictions in Gombe, …142 Nationwide in Six Months

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Gombe Zonal Office Northeast of the country  says it secured convictions of 20 persons between January and July 2018.

Head of Operations, Johnson Babalola disclosed this while speaking with Journalists during a Road Walk Against Corruption organised to commemorate the African Anti-Corruption Day with the theme “Winning the fight against corruption” held in Gombe on Wednesday.

He said Judiciary has been supportive of the commission’s effort to fight corruption in the zone

The Head of Operations said the National headquarters also secured 142 convictions between January and July 2018.

Babalola said Nigeria has one of the most extensive and deeply entrenched culture of corruption on the African continent.

He said, the depth and gravity of corruption in Nigeria was alarming, because the country has one of the most extensive and deeply entrenched culture of corruption on the African continent, if not in the world.

“We are determined to win the corruption war, no matter how long it would take to which the  commission has traced and recovered illicit funds as well as properties worth billions of Dollars”. He explains

He emphasised that the fight against corruption cannot be won by EFCC alone and therefore solicited the support and cooperation of all Nigerians including the judiciary and the bench.
