Kaduna (Nigeria) – The Kaduna State House of Assembly in north west Nigeria has passed the Bill for a Law to regulate Livestock Sector aimed at regulating the activities to ensure sanity and protect consumers
“We patronise meat daily this is something we need to regulate the entire activities because our population is growing we are almost 10 million people residing in the state we consume it daily, he stressed,” said Chairman House Committee on Agriculture and Forestry, Kassim Iliyasawa.
He told journalists that the Bill will go a long way in ensuring sanity on meat that people consume in the state.
Iliyasawa noted that due to the level of its importance the House has enormously accepted the bill, and that one of the benefits of the bill is that unsuspected individuals would not be subjected to hazard and risks.
According to him, meat in the state is going to be sanitised, the state will now compete with Netherlands united states of America, and will be unique, as well as set a good example for others to emulate.
He said some specific sanctions have been provided in the law that will strictly regulate the livestock activities interns of consumption.
The lawmaker said that the bill makes provision for security personnel to visit abattoirs to assess the hygienic nature of the environment, and make arrest whoever found wanting in the standard provided in the bill.
He however, Stressed the need for enlightenment on the importance of the law.
Meanwhile, the House has referred nine bills to various committees for indepth studies to be reported back to the House on 21st and 22nd of march respectively.
Some of the bills are those to regulate the distribution, marketing and sales of liquor and spirit in Kaduna State; Kaduna State Anti-Corruption law 2017, and a bill to substitute the Kaduna State Registration of Business Premises law 1991.
